Frequently Asked

What you should know about our varieties, how they're grown, and how to get the most out of them.

Not all of them. Most of our varieties are heirloom or open pollinated, but not every tomato we offer fits the strict heirloom definition. What they all share is exceptional flavor, character, and the ability to last far longer than a standard grocery store tomato.

No. FAMA varieties are not GMO. They are developed through traditional plant breeding and selection over time, using genetics that already exist in nature — not genetic modification in a lab.

A Longkeeper is a tomato variety bred or selected to store well after harvest. Unlike standard tomatoes that soften and decline quickly, Longkeepers can stay beautiful and usable for weeks or even months when kept properly.

It depends on the variety and how they're stored, but Longkeepers can last significantly longer than conventional tomatoes. Some hold for weeks, while certain varieties can keep for months.

Store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate unless they are fully ripe and you need to slow them down. These tomatoes are meant to be kept at room temperature and enjoyed over time.

Most grocery store tomatoes are bred for shipping, uniformity, and shelf appearance. FAMA varieties are selected for flavor, texture, beauty, and storage life. They feel more alive, more distinct, and far less generic.

Yes, but differently. They often have a denser texture, deeper character, and a more savory, concentrated profile. They are not trying to be a peak-summer backyard slicer. They offer something more unusual and lasting.

Both. They are visually striking enough to live on the counter, but they are grown to be eaten. Part of the appeal is that they bring beauty and utility together.

No. They are for anyone who cares about growing something with real character. Backyard growers, collectors, chefs, and curious obsessives are all welcome here. We also work with commercial growers. If that's you, reach out and let's talk.
